Earlier this year, the State of Michigan passed a new law requiring districts to have policies in place that limit student use of personal wireless communications devices during the school day.
Therefore, Bronson Community Schools is implementing new expectations for student wireless communications devices during the instructional day. Not only do these expectations align with the law, they are designed to support student engagement, reduce distractions, and help every student be fully present in the classroom.
Students will not be permitted to use personal wireless communications devices (legally defined as any electronic device capable of, but not limited to, text messaging, voice communication, entertainment, navigation, accessing the internet, sending and receiving photos and videos, or producing email) from the beginning to end of the school day.

It's an exciting day as Excell Paving Plus is onsite and laying asphalt on the student parking lot on the west side of the Jr./Sr. High School!
If you've driven by recently, you may have noticed that the parking lot has some unexpected hills and valleys. Believe it or not...they're there on purpose!
Those gradual slopes were intentionally designed to help move water off the parking lot and protect the surface for years to come. While many large parking lots rely on underground storm drains, that wasn't a practical option for this project. Instead, the lot was carefully graded so water naturally flows to the swale (drainage ditch) on the west side, accomplishing the same goal.
So while the finished parking lot may look a little different than what you're used to seeing, those gentle slopes are an important part of the design and will help preserve the investment our community made in these improvements.
Watching the paving crews at work today is an exciting reminder that another piece of these projects is coming together. We can't wait to share the finished product with our students and staff!

We are so grateful to our community for supporting our bond for the renovation/addition onto Anderson Elementary and to make additional updates to our facilities. Your support means so much, and we don't take it for granted.
Earlier this year, the district applied for a competitive school infrastructure grant through the Michigan Department of Education to help address facility needs identified in the their 2024 school facilities study. We want our community to know: we applied, we were competitive, and we didn't receive an award this round.
MDE received 187 applications from districts across Michigan requesting a combined $1.8 billion - more than 8 times the $224 million available. Our application met all program requirements, but in a highly competitive scoring process, other districts' applications scored higher.
Our bond will address many of our most pressing needs, but it doesn't cover everything. This grant would have helped us go further for our students and staff. We'll continue to pursue this and future funding opportunities to stretch every dollar as far as possible, and we'll keep the community informed every step of the way.
