On Thursday, a small group of students had the opportunity to attend the Glen Oaks College Fair alongside the Counseling Department, where they explored a wide range of postsecondary opportunities. Students connected with representatives from colleges, the military, and other training programs, gaining valuable information to help them consider their future pathways.

This afternoon, a tornado warning was issued for our area just as our buses were finishing their routes. We immediately reached out to our drivers and stayed in close communication with them as the weather developed.

Our drivers were fully prepared to stop and take appropriate measures if needed, including taking cover and moving students to the safest available location along their routes. Thankfully, conditions did not require that action, and all students arrived home safely.

We are so grateful for our drivers for their preparedness and attention to safety during these situations.

This past weekend, Bronson took 13 students and three advisors to Lansing to participate in Michigan Youth in Government. Over the four-day conference, students engaged in the legislative process at the Michigan State Capitol, meeting in the House and Senate chambers as well as at the Lansing Center.

Alyssa Randol successfully passed her bill, “Graduating Students in Michigan Public Schools May Decorate Their Purchased Graduation Caps,” through both chambers, and it was signed by the Youth Governor. Anna Lindsey also passed her bill, “A Bill to Require One Armed Security Guard at All Michigan Public Schools,” through both chambers.

Overall, students practiced civic engagement while demonstrating the core values of the YMCA. #GDTBABV

We were honored to welcome Cullen Knoblauch, Conservation Officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, as this morning’s Distinguished Speakers Series guest at BJSHS!

Officer Knoblauch spoke with our students about career opportunities within the DNR and shared valuable insight into what it takes to pursue a career in conservation law enforcement here in Michigan. From protecting our state’s natural resources to serving local communities, students gained a firsthand look at the meaningful and impactful work conservation officers do every day.

He also offered practical advice on how students can begin preparing now — including education pathways, physical readiness, outdoor experience, and community involvement — for future roles with the DNR.

We are grateful to Officer Knoblauch for investing his time in our students and inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders! #GDTBABV

On February 27, Mr. Easterday welcomed guest speaker Thomas Talbot, a local archaeologist, to discuss the “Belson Site.” Eighth- and ninth-grade students learned about the ancient people who lived in southwest Michigan around 13,000 years ago.

Mr. Talbot explained where these early inhabitants came from, what they looked like, what they ate, and the tools they used to hunt various animals. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and examine artifacts.

We sincerely thank Mr. Talbot for his time and for sharing his knowledge with our students. #GDTBABV

This morning, bus 19B experienced a mechanical issue and began emitting black smoke. The driver safely stopped and, out of an abundance of caution, students were immediately transferred to another bus and transported to school without further issue.

Please know that student safety is always our top priority, and at no time during this situation were students in danger.

The bus has been taken out of service for inspection, and a replacement bus is being used this afternoon. We appreciate our transportation team’s quick response and commitment to keeping students safe.
