Dear Families:
Great news! This year, our school district was selected to participate in the Building Healthy Communities
program, an initiative that is helping us make our school a healthier place! Creating a healthy school for our
students is important because we know that healthy students are better learners. Every Monday, we are going to post healthy tips and tricks.
Here is our first edition:
Building Healthy Communities: October is National Eat Better, Eat Together Month
October is National Eat Better, Eat Together month! Family meals are a great time to teach children about healthy eating habits and show them what a healthy meal looks like. It is important to never force or pressure children to eat a particular food, but rather encourage trying new foods in a happy and comfortable manner. You can help expand your child’s healthy food choices by encouraging them and being a role model. To help make family meals a part of your family routine, set a regular family mealtime while minimizing distractions like TV, and focusing on communicating with one another. Also remember to eat at the table to focus on each other and eating mindfully. Check out these tips to Make the Most of Mealtime and keep Healthy Family Communication! This month we are starting to teach our nutrition education lessons. October will begin with a lesson on MyPlate and a lesson on Mindful Eating. To reiterate these lessons at home, ask your child what they learned in class about the food groups while you are enjoying mealtime! Learn more about the BHC program by visiting: https://bhcwsu.org/

As you all know, we have reached another Lead By Example goal together as a school, so you know what that means, SLIME, Mrs. Bucklin! The top ticket earner in every class got to dump slime on Mrs. Bucklin while everyone else cheered and chanted!! It was pretty gross but a lot of fun!

Fire Safety Week
Ryan Elementary visited the fire station today for Fire Safety Week to learn all about fire safety. The fireman showed students what they look like in the firefighter gear, quizzed the kids on what to do in case of a fire, and we even got to walk through a fire truck.
There will be a Fire Safety Open House and a pizza party Saturday, October 11th, from 4-7 at the Bronson Fire Station.
Did you know that the firefighter's gear weighs about 75lbs?
